Citizens For Animal Protection puts on the Glitz at Great Gatsby Pawty

Sat Nov 12, 2016

Talk about a roarin’ good time.

The Citizens for Animal Protection "Pawty With The Great Gatsby" was an evening of '20s-inspired flapper dresses, dazzling song-and-dance performances and some of the most adorable cats and dogs to ever grace a runway. Always a highlight of the social calendar, the 30th annual Celebrity Paws gala raised $600,000 for the organization that shelters and cares for unwanted dogs and cats.

Mr. Gatsby himself would have certainly approved of the CAP fete at the Royal Sonesta Hotel. While the champagne flowed and the Modern Vintage Band played, J&D Entertainment performers mixed and mingled with the crowd of 600 guests who also got in on the fun dressed in their own '20s glitz attire.

During cocktails, guests bid on auction items, participated in the wine pull and made the rounds at the plush art deco booths where honorees and their pets welcomed guests. The 2016 CAP honorees included Lara Bell and Brent Milam, Cindy and Jack Childress, Kim and Scott David, C.C. and Duke Ensell, Jo Lynn and Gregg Falgout, Yanira and David Huntington, Dr. Roland Maldonado and Enid Sanchez, Paige and Robert Martin, and Charlene and Charles Signorino along with Junior Honorees Alexandra Gill and Stephen Gill.

Celebrity Pet of the Year honors were awarded to the Martins and their dog Miss Celie.

The gala, chaired by Marian and Austin Cornelius, and Patricia and Sig Cornelius, also celebrated honorary chairs Pamela and Jack Wright. The Alan Stein family were saluted with the Melcher Humanitarian of the Year Award and CAP Cherished Companions Francie and Mike Willis were recipients of the Celebrity Paws Hall of Fame.

Leslie Alexander and The Houston Rockets were honored with the Heart of Gold Award, while Cathy and Jess Marion and the Share The Love Award was given to Gloria and Frank Meszaros of West Houston Subaru.

Those spotted in the crowd supporting CAP included: Sylvia Forsythe, Andy Cordes and Brian Teichman, Fady Armanious and Bill Baldwin, Mike and Melna Moriarty, Todd Zucker and Linda Schmuck, Carol and Bill Simmons, Dan Boggio, Liz and Pete Carragher, Frank DiMaria and Pat Keller, Vanessa and Perry Sendukas, Marcia and Mike Feldman, and Jim Mattly.
